Haze on Cinema Screen

To all. This is an old problem that I thought had gone away.

If your display came packaged in a stiff cloth bag without a thin plastic film covering the whole screen your display is most likely scratched. You can verify this if you still have the packaging. The styrofoam corners and supports rubbed on the stiff bag abrading the surface. Those who have distinct lines about 2 inches from the top of the display you will notice they match the inside molding of the top styrofoam block. You will most likely also see similar abrading in the bottom right and left corners. These match the bottom support blocks.

Original 24 and 27 inch displays did not have a plastic film covering the entire screen (only the apple logo). A running change was made on newer screens to include a protective film. Unfortunately there is no solution except to replace the screen. Cleaning with any product is only temporary as the abrasions are only masked until the cleaner dissipates.

Just for the record I believe it's not glass. I think it's acrylic (what most call Plexiglas).

My suggestion is to not try to clean the surface while it's still warm. I think these acrylic cleaners do tend to leave smears if used on a warm(ish) surface. Leave it off for a while then try cleaning it again. FWIW, I use iKlear and haven't seen any of the smear marks but I use the microfiber cloth that came with the iKlear and, by the way, the directions on the side of the iKlear bottle actually do say "+...and let cool+".

I have one of these displays. It's amazing what gets on them and you see when the screen is all black 🙂 Fortunately none of this is visible when on. I think apple made these displays so bright so you couldn't seem screen marks.

Finally I typed all this thinking you meant "iKlear" when you said "IClean". So I just did a google search and discovered there really is a product called "IClean". Very confusing!

One of these days I really need to confirm 100% that the screen is indeed acrylic because it it is I could save a lot of money buying a commercial acrylic cleaner as opposed to these overpriced so called screen cleaners. For example, see the links below:

The screen is made from arsenic free glass. It is sold under the brand name Gorilla Glass from Corning. It is stronger than acrylic but not as durable (scratch resistant) as regular glass.

The 'haze' or scratches are actually minor abrasions caused by the packaging. Original LED displays were shipped without a protective film that covered the whole screen (just the Apple logo on the back). The abrasions match the hard styrofoam packaging blocks at the top and bottom corners of the display.

I have the 24" LED and have something similar. Not long after wiping it down I get marks on it - almost looks like stripes in some areas. They wipe off no problem, but mine does something similar as well.

I purchased and tried the iKlear for some weird crap on my LED screen, as well. Followed directions and turned it off and let it cool. Weird crap is still there. Not sure what to use now ... was thinking of just using some vinegar & water, but haven't tried it out yet (has any1 else tried it & been successful?). Don't really want 2 spend anymore $ on stuff that won't work.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster. The haze is about one-third down from the top and is a horizontal line about 2" deep all across the screen of my 27" Cinema Display. iKlear doesn't eliminate the problem from returning.
